What Is the Enterprise Ireland Online Retail Scheme?
The Online Retail Scheme is a government-backed grant, administered by Enterprise Ireland. It supports Irish-based retailers in enhancing their online capability. Grants of up to €25,000 cover half the cost of approved digital projects. This scheme is for established retail companies with a physical store and a pre-existing online presence.
Funding can help improve online transactions, optimise customer experience, and strengthen ecommerce capabilities to meet international consumer demand. Over 850 Irish retailers have been awarded funding since 2018. Most successful applicants operate outside Dublin. Projects must follow set timelines and submit one claim only, using the required documentation and formats.
Full Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Online Retail Scheme, your company must meet the following conditions:
- Be an Irish-owned retail business with a physical store open to the public.
- Employ at least 10 full-time employees, verified through payroll records.
- Operate an existing online presence, such as a transactional website or functioning ecommerce platform.
- Generate at least 50% of turnover from the sale of physical retail goods.
- Plan to improve online capability through areas like website upgrades, search engine optimisation, or digital strategy.
- Be ready to fund 50% of the project cost upfront (minimum eligible spend: €50,000+VAT).
Businesses focused solely on services, wholesale, or non-retail operations will not qualify under this scheme.
How to Apply During a New Round
Enterprise Ireland opens the Online Retail Scheme during selected calls. Only Irish-based retailers who meet the full criteria can apply.
Applicants must complete a digital development plan, outline costs, set timelines, and define their online growth goals. Submit the application through the Enterprise Ireland online portal during the open round.
If approved, you will receive a Letter of Offer with project details, grant value, and claim deadlines. Retailers must submit one final claim only, using Enterprise Ireland’s Excel form, Director Statement, and other required documents. All claims must be emailed; postal submissions are not accepted.
